Folk Jetisoned, In Comes Suisham; Spreading Holiday Cheer
December 22nd, 2009 | by donpotts21 |Nick Folk was given numerous chances to stay with the Cowboys, but for whatever reason he lost the consistency he had the previous two years. In down year for place kickers, Folk leads the NFL with 10 missed field goals. It seems his confidence was shaken with some misses early in the year, and he was never able to regain it. He is young enough and has a strong enough leg to warrant a shot elsewhere next year. I wish him the best of luck the rest of his career.
Now the complete irony of the situation is the Cowboys replace one struggling kicker with another. Shaun Suisham is brought in to replace Folk. Some might remember him in his brief stints with Dallas in 2005 and 2006. There is nothing remarkable about Suisham. He missed 10 field goals last year for the Redskins, and we all remember how he gift wrapped a victory for the Cowboys this year against Washington. Nevertheless, a change had to be made. Will this bring stability to the field goal unit? In all honesty, probably not. Suisham will not be the savior. Let’s just hope he can make the chip shots, and an occasional 40 – 49 yarder.
Holiday Cheer
For myself, Christmas is a stressful time. I hate shopping for other people without a gameplan. Gift cards feel like a cop out so I try to stay away from them. However, I usually find myself heading to 711 on Christmas Eve picking up gift cards, because my countless hours at the mall were unproductive.
Who knows what to buy your parents. I am a 24 year old recent college grad with credit card bills that should place me on Santa’s naughty list. (Did I really need to spend $200 at Delilah’s Den?) What do I get my parents who have every necessity, and who are not fond of many indulgences? It’s always a dilemma. My trademark move is going to a crowded mall, getting a Venti iced coffee from Starbucks and taking countless laps around the mall only to purchase a candle.
However, Christmas is a time for giving. If you are able and want to feel good about yourself, do something non-monetary for someone else. Shovel an elders driveway, strike up a conversation with a stranger … It is amazing the impact seemingly miniscul gestures can have on another’s life. Shopping for loved ones is difficult. Sometimes the best gifts you can give are everyday random acts of kindness.
Christmas is also a time for laughter. Here are three clips that are sure to, after watching, leave your pants stained. Enjoy. (content unrated)
