Lance Dunbar: Player Of The Week

Autumn St. Clair Featured, Players of the Week

Could we have asked for a more exhilarating season opener? Leave it to the naysayers to critique every flaw of the Cowboys Sunday night, but when the clock hit zero, who walked away with the W? I was surprisingly pleased with the players on the defensive side of the ball however Lance Dunbar has earned this weeks nomination. When opportunity knocks you better answer! That’s exactly what Dunbar did against the Giants. The fans finally got a chance to witness the capabilities of #25, that were somewhat stifled by his lack of touches the previous season.

With the departure of Murray and Dez out of the game, Dunbar quickly became a safety net for Romo. He caught all 8 passes that were thrown at him for a total of 70 yards, which put him on the top of the receiver list. He was an active player on the Cowboys game winning drive with his 24 and 16 yard catches to open the drive. That might be in itself a great reason to give him this honor, however, it’s what most didn’t notice that stands out to me. When it came to pass protection, Dunbar had some great blocks.

He has shown the ability to be an all-around player and this season he should have an opportunity to shine. While Dez is out and defenders are freed up on the other side of the ball, I anticipate Dunbar as the player we’ll see getting open for the short touch and go. As Coach Garrett said “”Either as a runner or as a receiver, coming out of the backfield and also when he lines up outside, he’s just a darn good football player.” Congratulations Lance… We look forward to you having a breakout season.
